Exotic beauty in Nepal: Rara Lake

The national park Rara is situated in the high highlands of northwest Nepal. This park was designed to preserve the exceptional beauty of Lake Rara in 1976 and to protect the Humla-Jumla area’s typical flora and animals. The park is the smallest protected area of Nepal, covering 106 square kilometers. Two villages in the park were Rara and Chhapru. In the Banke area outside the park, the residents of these two villages were resettled. The park is bordered by alpine coniferous plants and offers a significant sampling of flora and animals in the region. Geography and Feature of Rara Lake

The snow trout (Schizothoraxoreinussinuatus), the one fish reported in the lake, resides in its radiating blue waters. Many migratory birds are available to bird watchers during winter. In the summer, the lake is surrounded by Himalayan flowers creating picturesque countryside. The park is 2800 m high to 4039 m high. The highest point in the park is Chuchemara (4039 m).

Pine and spruce in the NisaKhola valley allow for mixed forests that contain popular Himalayan and walnuts. The subalpine region is home to rhododendrons, firs, oaks, and birches.

When to visit Rara Lake?

It’s a nice summer. Winter is rather cold, however. September/October and April to May are the ideal dates to visit the park year. Temperatures plummet below freezing between December and March and severe snowfall reach up to 1 meter, with high passes closed. April through June is warm, however, the monsoon season from June to August takes place. Spring, summer, and autumn are the finest time to visit the park. Vegetation and Flora Fauna in Raralake

The fauna is endangered. The Park is rich in winter with birds, including coots, grebe, black-crowned grass, red crests, mallards, teal, merganser, and gulls. In this park, there are plenty of birds. Migratory birds can also be spotted in certain seasons and gallinaceous birds.

Facilities and how to reach Raralake?

There is no health post in the region and it is worth bringing a comprehensive first-aid kit. Trekking agency arrangements must be made. In the park, there is no lodging. In every way, Trekkers must be autonomous. The Rara National Park is 2.5 days of Jumala hiking or 10 days of Surkhet hiking. The trip begins with a 2-3 day climb to the Raralake from Nepalgunj to Jumla. Jumla is recognized for her beautiful apes and it might be a great experience to go through these orchards. The walk leads to the Tibetan frontier via rural land.
